Room 1- Parent-Teacher Partnerships: Enhancing communication for student success
Facilitator: Lyn Henshaw, Director of Development and Community Engagement, Las Americas ASPIRA Academy, Delaware
Lyn has been a member of the ASPIRA family for over 7 years, currently serving as the Director of Development and Community Engagement. With a rich professional background and a passion for education, she brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her role. Lyn’s commitment to the school community has only deepened over time and she now plays a vital role in fostering connections within the community and driving the growth and development of ASPIRA’s mission.
Prior to her leadership role at ASPIRA, Lyn dedicated a decade to Early Childhood Education, where she nurtured and fostered the love of learning with young minds. Her background in education greatly influenced her approach to community engagement, as she understands the pivotal role education plays in shaping the future of our students.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Lyn takes pride in her personal life. Celebrating 38 years of marriage, she and her husband are the proud parents of three daughters who share their love for life. Adding a touch of joy to their household is Mia, their beloved mini goldendoodle who completes their family. Lyn is also a Rotary member just like our President, Julie Pile. Room 2 – Unlocking Adolescent Success: Nurturing Soft Skills for Thriving Futures
Facilitator – Kim Ray, Imagine Scholarships
Kim is passionate about fostering relationships and supporting others. Since she was a young girl, Kim’s family has playfully teased her about her ability to connect with anyone. Walking into a room full of strangers is not daunting to her; rather; she sees it as an exhilarating opportunity to make new friends.
Helping others has always been a driving force for Kim, and nothing brings her greater joy than celebrating their accomplishments. Her friends often remark that from the moment they met, they became friends for life.
Kim believes in the power of connections, and is committed to using those connections to support success, achieve goals, and uplift one another towards success.
Imagine Scholarships offers access to more than $9 billion of quality scholarship and internship opportunities with a proven process to find educational dollars to pay for college, trade school, or certificate programs and includes access to career and college coaching resources. Their services are available for individual subscription and to groups via partnerships with organizations (i.e., schools, districts, employee benefit programs, professional associations, etc).

Room 3 – Helping our children find their unique strengths
Jay Brewer, Superintendent, Dayton Independent Schools, KY
Jay is in his 24th year in education and has been the Superintendent of Dayton Independent Schools since 2012. As well as an educational leader, he also works as a consultant and is a certified Gallup Strengths Coach.
He is a graduate of Ludlow High School and he received his Bachelors in Elementary Education from the University of Kentucky. He then received his Rank I from Northern Kentucky University and his Superintendent Certification from Xavier University. Jay taught at Ludlow Elementary for 8 years, was Principal at Ludlow Elementary for 4 years and was Principal of Ruth Moyer Elementary for 8 years, before joining the Dayton team.
He resides in Ft. Thomas with his wife and 3 children. In his spare time, he enjoys running and is a 20 time Boston Marathon qualifier.
Room 4 – Transition Planning- Preparing your child for life after high school
Facilitator: Jessica McKee, MSW, LSW, Literacy Alliance of Pennsylvania
Jessica is the founder of The Literacy Alliance of Pennsylvania, an organization dedicated to transforming lives through literacy. She is actively involved with Decoding Dyslexia PA and is the current president for the Pennsylvania Branch of the International Dyslexia Association. Jessica is a Licensed Social Worker with nearly two decades of experience with mental health counseling and family services, including foster care and adoption. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Social Work in 2004 from Marywood University.
Jessica is the mother of five children, two of whom have dyslexia. Through her experiences with her children, Jessica realized the need for increased education and awareness regarding parent rights during special education processes and increased training for educators on dyslexia. She then began volunteering with Decoding Dyslexia and the National Center for Learning Disabilities to create more opportunities for students with dyslexia in education.
